MDG were appointed by AECOM to develop proposals for the modification and possible re-role of the secure training centre in Rugby. Whilst in operation a number of Ofsted (and similar) reports were published documenting failures at the Establishment which were pivotal in the closure to children in early 2021. These improvements ranged from the provision of updated and appropriate internal finishes to new external learnings spaces and extensions to the existing building stock.
The work was centred around the Accommodation, Education, Sports Centre and Ancillary Buildings. There were also ancillary improvements like, Replacement of windows, Extension to the existing secure perimeter, Installation of new canopy to existing sports pitch and Landscaping measures to provide quality external amenity. As well as the measures identified above the consultant team also identified a number of statutory and MoJ standards specific issues with the buildings.
MDG are providing Architectural design a lead technical advisor services to the project throughout the detailed design and construction phases.
