GLOUCESTER ROYAL HOSPITAL -GLOUCESTER CAR PARK

A new multi-storey car park with 1,000 spaces multi-storey car park for Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, delivered in partnership with the hospital trust and VINCI. The Gloucestershire Royal Hospital car park feature a sculptural façade which makes use of vertical wooden elements to prevent headlights from disturbing neighbouring residencies. The contemporary timber elevations responded to the leafy context of the area, whilst providing the required natural ventilation required to each of the parking levels.

The steel framed carpark utilises a warped deck concrete plank design,  to reduce the car parks height. Sensitive design measures were incorporated into the design to fully enclose each of the elevations, to prevent potential suicides from vulnerable patients attending cancer treatments and diagnosis appointments. The restrained fenestration design along the elevations provides an elegant safety solution, without making the car park feel institutionalised.

Project undertaken by Darren Newitt whilst at 3D Reid.
