MDG were appointed by Faithful+Gould to deliver a full contingent of RIBA stages for two project at HMP East Sutton Park. The first involved the removal of the existing asbestos roofs to a number of buildings on site, more specifically within the working farm, which posed a risk to the users and operators of the area.
The second project covered extensive fire safety improvement works within the main house which provides much of the accommodation for the site. Following a number of fire safety studies and observations it was observed that there were a number of issues both with the fire detection and the construction of the internal wall and ceiling linings which could exacerbate the spread of fire and put any accommodation at risk. The measures incorporated works to internal escape corridors, replacement and modification of existing fire doors and significant works to improve fire compartmentalisation on the whole throughout the building.
